Overview

Adelphi University Is One of the Top Schools in the New York Metropolitan Area for International Students

It's an exhilarating time to be an international undergraduate or graduate student at historic Adelphi University, the oldest private liberal arts and sciences university on Long Island, just 45 minutes from New York City. Even among the top schools in the New York metropolitan area, historic Adelphi is a stand-out with its large international student population from 45 countries and the consistent global focus of its academic programs.

Since the 1990s, Adelphi has undergone a major expansion program that continues to make headlines in the academic world. Adelphi University's renaissance is fueled by a $200-million investment in capital improvements, including new residence halls, centers for performing arts, fine arts, recreation, and sports; network, telecommunications, and wireless access across campus; and science lab enhancements.

Adelphi University is Ranked a National Best Buy College

National magazines, educational organizations, and online college watchdogs are recognizing Adelphi's broad efforts with top rankings on many best-of lists. Noted for high academic standards and reasonable tuition costs, the private liberal arts university is nationally recognized for six straight years as a Best Buy in the Fiske Guide to Colleges.

Adelphi attracts hundreds of nationally recognized professors and additional staff to the school's 40 new programs. Many Adelphi faculty members are Fulbright and Hartford Scholars.

Adelphi Has a Long Tradition of Innovative Undergraduate Programs

Adelphi University is a fully accredited, private liberal arts university with more than 8,000 undergraduate, graduate, and returning-adult students in their renowned programs in arts and sciences, business, psychology, education, nursing, and social work.

Adelphi's distinguished Robert B. Willumstad School of Business is one of an elite group of less than 10 percent of the world's business schools to earn international accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB)-International, which is the gold standard of performance for quality and excellence in undergraduate and graduate education for business administration and accounting.

The venerable Gordon F. Derner Institute for Advanced Psychological Studies is the nation's first university-based professional school of psychology and continues to be the nation's foremost academic school for clinical psychology training.

Adelphi's School of Social Work has been a driving force for ethical social work practice and a strong advocate for social justice for more than 50 years. Adelphi's School of Nursing has a proud history of graduating well-trained nurses, administrators, and educators and is one of very few nursing schools with a Ph.D. in Nursing program.

International Student Services are Readily Available at Adelphi

Adelphi's international admissions representatives attend university fairs in major cities in India, China, and other countries where they can describe Adelphi's undergraduate and graduate programs to U.S.-bound college students.

Adelphi's Office of International Student Services helps students meet legal requirements for entry into the United States and maintain legal status while at Adelphi. The office also offers information and advice concerning differences in government laws and regulations, language, customs, culture, and educational systems.

The International Student Society represents Adelphi students from 45 different countries and helps them adjust to college and learn about American culture.

Adelphi Enjoys the Beauty of Long Island, 20 Miles from New York City

Adelphi University is situated in Garden City, Long Island, New York, on one of America's most stunning campuses. Beautifully landscaped with lavish rose gardens and sixty species of trees and shrubs, the 75-acre campus was officially designated as an arboretum in 2002. Students have a safe, suburban campus environment for learning and for enjoying the many extracurricular activities, clubs, and sports events.

Convenient to Long Island's famous beaches and parks, the campus is just a 45-minute train ride from the world-class attractions of the most exciting international city in the world. Students can drive into Manhattan on the Long Island Expressway or ride the Long Island Rail Road, a clean and efficient commuter train with a convenient station near campus.

Besides the Garden City campus, Adelphi University has three other locations in the New York metropolitan area offering select academic programs. The Hauppauge Center is also on Long Island. The Manhattan Center is located in the historic SoHo neighborhood. The Hudson Valley Center is situated north of New York City in Poughkeepsie, New York.
