Overview

Excellence in Business Education at Fordham University

In its guide to the "Best Undergraduate Business Schools 2012," Bloomberg Businessweek ranked the Gabelli School of Business at Fordham University among the top 50 schools in the nation. This designation reflects Gabelli's commitment to providing its students with high-quality business education, comprehensive resources, and unwavering support.

The school's innovative and challenging programs include a global perspective and provide many hands-on learning opportunities -- like the Student Managed Investment Fund. In addition, its professors are experts in their specialty areas and dedicated to providing personalized attention.

Furthermore, Gabelli's location in one of the world's most prestigious commercial centers -- New York City -- ensures top-notch internship opportunities at some the nation's most elite businesses. Additionally, the school has a "loyal" network of accomplished alumni who are dedicated to mentoring current students.

The Gabelli Approach to Undergraduate Business Education

Unlike many business schools, Gabelli's business programs integrate the liberal arts with business fundamentals, concentrations, and specializations. This mix of coursework ensures that students acquire the problem-solving, critical thinking, teamwork, and verbal and written communication skills as well as the business sense and confidence needed to become ethical leaders in a global business environment.

The liberal arts core consists of 13 courses in economics, English, the fine arts, history, mathematics, philosophy, and theology. Additionally, the integrated business core includes 12 courses in accounting, economics, finance, information and communication systems, management/strategy, and marketing.

Customized Business Curricula

With 7 majors and 7 concentrations students can create curricula that meet their unique academic interests and career goals. Majors include accounting, accounting information systems, applied accounting and finance, business administration, finance, management of information and communication systems, and marketing.

Furthermore, students who select the business administration major can choose a maximum of 2 of the following concentrations: accounting, business economics, entrepreneurship, finance, information and communication systems, management, and marketing.

Minors and Specializations

Students can complete minors or specializations to further customize their plans of study. They may choose from 3 business minors: accounting, economics, and law and ethics. Alternatively, they may select minors from an extensive range of liberal arts disciplines. Furthermore, the Gabelli School of Business offers specializations that include 3 courses and an experiential component such as an internship or study-abroad experience.

A Variety of Global Business Education Programs

The Gabelli School of Business offers several ways for students to gain international business knowledge and experience. Students in the Global Business Honor Program visit 3 continents over the course of 3 years.

Students can also fulfill their core and major courses at Fordham University's London satellite campus, complete internships at multinational companies in New York City, or take international-focused business courses.

Juniors and seniors can participate in G.L.O.B.E. -- the school's international business specialization. It includes 2 international business courses, 1 cultural studies course, and a study-abroad experience or "globally-focused internship."

Financial Aid at Fordham University

Fordham University offers qualified students a variety of financial aid options including New York State grants; federal grants, loans, and work study programs; and institutional scholarships. The Gabelli School of Business also awards several scholarships such as the James J. and Mary Ann Dowdall Endowed Scholarship.

Fordham Research Opportunities

At Fordham, cutting-edge research is a vital component of educational excellence. The Gabelli School of Business promotes this principle by providing 11 specialized research centers in which business faculty members conduct and disseminate cutting-edge research on a national scale.

Gabelli's undergraduate students are a vital part of its commitment to research and are inspired to conduct research that explores new ideas.

Students also have opportunities to assist faculty members with their research and conduct original research through the Global Business Honors program, Honors Thesis program, and Bailey Society.

Expert Business Faculty at Fordham University

Fordham's 105 full-time professors are excellent teachers, scholars, and mentors. Its 85 adjunct instructors, many of whom are executives in businesses located in New York City, are also researchers and mentors who bring practical experience to the classroom.

Professor Kyle J. Emich conducts research on small group efficiency, emotion, decision making, and motivation.

Professor James Weldon has more than 35 years of business experience. He is founder and president of Strategic Directions Associates, a business-building consulting practice.

Fordham University

Established in 1841, Fordham University is located in New York City, New York, in the northeastern region of the United States.

It is a premier research institution that provides outstanding education in the Jesuit tradition, which includes "rigorous scholarship" and promotion of ethical values. The Fordham approach also involves respecting and embracing each student and helping them achieve academic, emotional, moral, and physical excellence.

In fact, the university is nationally-recognized for its excellence in education. For example, "US News and World Report" ranks Fordham within the top 100 national universities in its 2013 edition of the "Best Colleges" guide.

Living and Learning in New York City

Fordham offers more than 15,000 students a supportive and welcoming community. Its location in New York City -- a major center for advertising, banking, finance, and media -- provides an abundance of employment, internship, cultural, community service, recreational, and enrichment opportunities.

Fordham's Rose Hill campus -- its original campus in the Bronx -- provides a picturesque, traditional setting amidst the urban richness of New York City. It is adjacent to Little Italy, the Bronx Zoo, and the New York Botanical Gardens.

Located in Manhattan, the Lincoln Center campus is adjacent to the celebrated Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. Famous attractions such as Central Park, Carnegie Hall, and the Rockefeller Center are within walking distance of the campus.
