North Dakota State University (International Student Information) - Overview
An Intensive Approach with Experienced Faculty Yields Results
Students in the Intensive English Language Program (IELP) at North Dakota State University work with native English speakers in classes taught by experienced instructors who are specially trained to teach English to people who speak other languages. Students receive individual attention through a one-on-one tutoring program and participate in intensive small group instruction and daily class work, all of which are targeted toward helping students improve their English skills for other academic work. IELP students also have the option to take one university course.
IELP Students Call North Dakota State University Home
IELP is located on the campus of North Dakota State University, a comprehensive, career-oriented academic institution with a long history of excellence in technical, scientific, and professional fields. NDSU's regionally accredited curriculum includes degree programs in architecture, agriculture, business, computer science, engineering, family and child development, hotel and restaurant management, liberal arts, natural sciences, and social sciences.
Students enrolled in the Intensive English Language Program have access to all NDSU recreation facilities and usually stay in university dormitories with American students, although they may choose to live in off-campus apartments.
Summer English Program: Intensive Training in Five Weeks
The Summer Intensive English Language and Culture Program (SIELCP) is a five-week intensive course designed to integrate language study and learning activities. Students attend class each morning and engage in learning and cultural activities in the afternoon. The full-time, non-credit course is designed to help students develop skills needed for further academic study and general use of the English language in the United States. Instruction is centered on speaking, listening, reading, and writing American English.
Students in the SIELCP are housed in North Dakota State dormitory apartments with kitchen facilities. Meals are prepared by students or eaten in local restaurants, and some meal service is available in university cafeterias. Every Saturday, students take field trips to regional areas of historical, cultural and social interest.
