Northwood University is a private university with residential campuses in Michigan, Texas, and Florida, as well as international program centers in 6 other countries. The Florida campus of Northwood University is located in West Palm Beach, just minutes from the Atlantic Ocean. Current total student population on the Florida campus is approximately 800.

Founded in 1959, Northwood University is a specialized business school known for preparing students with practical career skills and business principles based on free enterprise concepts. More than 33,000 students have graduated from the institution.

Among Northwood University's distinguished alumni are US Congresswoman Candice Miller, Washington Redskins defensive end Chris Wilson, and American Basketball Association player Jerry Pettway.

Northwood University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

Undergraduate Degree Program Overview

Northwood University Florida campus offers Bachelor's degrees and Master's of Business Administration in specialized, industry-specific business majors. These include accounting, advertising and marketing, aftermarket management, automotive marketing and management, finance, entertainment, sport and promotion management, entrepreneurship, international business, management, marketing, and hotel, restaurant, and resort management.

Each freshman begins satisfying his or her business course requirements during the first year that he or she spends on campus, but each student also takes core courses in the humanities, math, and English. In addition, internships and externships enhance classroom instruction.

Dual Majors Offered

Several dual majors are offered within Northwood's business degree choices. For example, students can earn degrees in the dual majors of banking and finance/management or marketing/management. Business management is the second component in most of the university's dual majors; a business degree that focuses solely on management is also offered.

Four-Year BBA/MBA Program

Northwood University's 4-year BBA/MBA program allows high-achieving, international business or management majors to complete their Bachelor of Business Administration degrees in 3 years and their Master of Business Administration degrees in 1 additional year.

Small Classes, Experienced Faculty Members

Northwood University Florida campus employs approximately 140 faculty members. Classes are small but challenging; the student-to-faculty member ratio is about 20:1. A large percentage of Northwood's faculty members hold the most advanced degrees in their fields. Also on staff are professionals with career experiences and successful backgrounds in varied aspects of business and industry, who bring insight into the demands of specific careers. Classroom environments are state-of-the-art and combine a variety of educational resources.

Living, Learning, and Growing at Northwood

About 40 percent of Northwood University students live on campus. The R. Gary and Willa Stauffer Residence Complex houses over 430 students. Each apartment has a living room, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and 2 study rooms. Normal occupancy is 2 students per room and 4 students per apartment.

The main academic facilities consist of the multi-purpose Johann M. and Arthur E. Turner Education Center and the 23,000 sq. ft. DeVos-Cook Academic Center, which houses state-of-the-art classrooms and faculty offices, the registrar's office, and the Center for Ethics in Business.

The Maureen L. and David H. Smith Student Recreation Complex offers a variety of outdoor recreational facilities and amenities including basketball, racquetball, volleyball, tennis courts, and a swimming pool. The Countess de Hoernle Student Life Center (SLC), the newest building on campus, hosts a variety of indoor facilities including a fitness center, an arena, a gymnasium, an athletic training area, a bookstore, and a cafe.

The campus is also home to a variety of student organizations, including Business Professionals of America, Sports and Entertainment Association, Phi Beta Lambda, Seahawks in the Community, Northwood Nights Programming Board, Class Councils, HOST Club, and many others.

EXCEL Students Have Extracurricular Advantages

Northwood students who participate in the popular EXCEL student development program receive special Student Development Transcripts (SDT) of extracurricular involvement that are sent out to employers, scholarship committees, and graduate school admissions officers whenever a student requests an academic transcript. The SDT demonstrates the student's commitment to becoming an educated and productive employee and community member. EXCEL credits may be earned through attendance at career and leadership workshops, professional work experience, community volunteerism, and involvement in cultural events.

Seahawks Sports

Northwood University is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (NAIA). Its Seahawks teams compete in men's and women's golf and women's tennis, as well as women's volleyball, basketball, softball, and soccer.

Tuition and Financial Aid

Approximately 70 percent of Northwood University Florida students receive some form of financial aid. Assistance is available through Northwood scholarships, grants, and federal assistance. Scholarships include academic merit scholarships, private donor awards, business club scholarships, and athletic scholarships. Students seeking financial aid should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Northwood University's Florida campus is situated on 90 suburban acres in the northwest part of West Palm Beach, the largest and most populous city in Palm Beach County. The area is home to world-class restaurants and shopping, as well as a variety of outdoor music, art, and waterfront festivals; art museums; regional theater; botanical gardens and wildlife sanctuaries; and almost 50 miles of beaches.
