Overview

St. Catharine College -- A Liberal Arts College in the Dominican Tradition

Formally founded in 1931, the history of St. Catharine College traces its roots as far back as 1823. Today, the school offers co-educational, career-focused programs grounded in both the liberal arts and Dominican tradition. Degree programs integrate faith and reason in order to prepare students to be ethical leaders, critical thinkers, and engaged citizens. Curriculum uses the faith and traditions of the Sisters who first envisioned the institution, as well as the core values of Dominican life: ministry, prayer, study, and community.

The faculty members and staff members of St. Catharine College welcome students regardless of faith, and dedicate themselves to student growth. Graduates of St. Catharine are well prepared for careers in their fields of study.

A Core Education at St. Catharine College

St. Catharine offers a wide range of associate's and bachelor's degree options, from marketing to criminal justice to health sciences. The college continues to grow in size and degree opportunities, offering more majors each year. The institution's unique combination of Catholic Dominican tradition and small class sizes offers students the ability to build character and stewardship along with knowledge and career skills.

All students complete a core studies program as part of the curriculum. The program provides a solid foundation in 7 areas of competency and study: communication, global perspectives, the human arts, the human sciences, information literacy, science with a lab component, and stewardship. Students must each earn 49 core credit hours for a bachelor's degree and 22 credit hours for an associate's degree.

Degree Opportunities from the School of Arts and Sciences

The School of Arts and Sciences at St. Catharine College offers several interdisciplinary degrees designed to develop critical thinking and communication skills students need in the real world. Students may choose to minor in music, philosophy, and US history. A Certificate in Pastoral Studies is also available.

Degree Opportunities from the School of Professional Studies

Programs in the School of Professional Studies are designed to show students how to practically apply their liberal arts educations to the careers of their choice. Management and leadership development are core features of each degree program. The school offers BA degrees in criminal justice, management and supervision, and marketing. BS degrees are available in elementary or middle school education. Minors are offered in criminal justice, management, and marketing.

Student Activities Opportunities at St. Catharine College

St. Catharine College offers many opportunities to be engaged, connect with peers, and get involved on campus. Student organizations and interest groups that offer learning experiences beyond the classroom include the Criminal Justice Club, Dominican Young Adults, and Fine Arts Club. The Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) is a national organization on campus that is dedicated to promoting health care delivery and career opportunities. The college also houses a strong campus ministry, which offers opportunities for community building, shared prayer, theological reflection, and service.

Financial Aid Opportunities at St. Catharine College

The financial aid department at St. Catharine College is dedicated to helping nearly every student on campus cover the costs of college through a variety of financial aid options. Over 90 percent of students receive financial aid in the form of loans, grants, work-study, or student employment. A variety of scholarships are also available to qualified students. For example, the Four Winds Scholarship is awarded to a non-traditional student from Marion County, Kentucky who demonstrates financial need. The Hale Organ Scholarship is awarded to Central Kentucky residents who are able to play the organ or piano. The Dominican Sisters Scholarship is primarily awarded to students that do not qualify for other types of financial aid.
