Location

Philadelphia is where the United States was born--everywhere in this bustling city are the unmistakable signs of rebirth and revolution. And a student's journey toward creative rebirth and revolution can start at The Art Institute of Philadelphia, conveniently located in the city's downtown.

One of the largest college and university towns in the nation, the Philadelphia area's influx of young people is responsible for much of the vitality of the arts, culture, and design scene. It's evident in everything from North Philadelphia factories that have been given new life as innovative art galleries, to fashion-forward independent boutiques that are opening in nineteenth-century storefronts.

Philadelphia is a big city with a small-town heart. There's an abundance of neighborhoods, ranging from charming to funky. There are iconic symbols of America's history: the Liberty Bell, Constitution Hall, and Independence Hall. The Italian Market is the oldest working outdoor food market in the country, and more than 200 new sidewalk cafes bring the city streets alive at night. And the area's art, design, and fashion businesses and galleries make "Old City" a vibrant and culturally diverse neighborhood with an old world--European feel.

Funk, jazz, hip-hop, world music, punk or alternative rock are all available at local clubs, while classical musicians perform under the soaring dome of the new Kimmel Center. There's Phillies baseball at Citizens Bank Park, Flyers hockey or 76ers basketball at the Wells Fargo Center, and Eagles football at Lincoln Financial Field.

Students seeking relief from the urban scene can hike, bike, run, picnic, or just relax in the over 9,000 acres of green space that make up the city's parks. For cycling enthusiasts, Philadelphia is consistently rated among the top five large cities for that activity, offering more bike lanes than any other city and a network of top-rated off-road trails.
