Theater is the most social of art forms, blending together acting, music, and dance, to create a dependent relationship between the performers and the audience. One cannot exist without the other. Every element of the performance, from the actors, to the costumes, set, and lighting promotes a reaction from the audience and brings the storytelling vision of the writer and director to life.

Finding Theater and Performing Arts Schools

If you’re drawn to the exciting and dynamic nature of drama, attending a performing arts school is the first step to becoming a part of the theater world. A drama school will provide you with hands-on experience in putting on performances, necessary for a career in theater. If acting in movies is preferable over performing on the stage, there are also many film schools which you could attend.

When selecting a performing arts school, be sure to see what programs are offered. In addition to acting, you can become involved in many other aspects of theater production, such as writing and directing, lighting and sound, set and costume design, stage management, and more. While enrolled in acting school, you will also take classes in history and literature to gain a sound foundation in the roots of classic theater, learning the importance of research when it comes to putting on a production.

A performing arts school will mold you into a professional—sharpening your talent and providing an outlet for your need to express yourself through drama. Deciding on which drama school you will attend is an important part of cementing your future in theater. To make that choice a little easier, use the search function above and find performing arts schools across the country.
