Online MBA Overview

Established in 1998, the Marist College fully online 2-year (30 credit hours) MBA degree program is designed for working professionals and is delivered in an asynchronous format that allows students to move at their own pace once accepted.

Online courses may be accessed 24/7 from anywhere and are structured and interactive, with clearly defined assignments, projects, readings, discussions, and deadlines.

Assignments and exams are time sensitive with specific due dates.

Each course is 3 credit hours and delivered online in 8-week sessions. Students who want to supplement their online studies with occasional on-campus coursework may take core courses in the traditional 15-week format at Marist College's Fishkill, NY Executive Center.

More than 90% of students in the Marist College online MBA program complete their degrees while working full time. A typical student enrolled in the Marist MBA program has 3 to 5 years of professional experience, is over 30 years of age, and holds a mid-level managerial position. While many have traditional business management degrees, many more students come to the Marist MBA program with backgrounds in accounting, banking, brokerage, engineering, systems analysis, IT, healthcare, human resources, manufacturing, and marketing.

Four-Component Curriculum

The Marist online MBA comprises foundation courses, core courses, electives, and optional concentrations. Foundation courses in marketing, economics, analytics, accounting, finance and management provide a common body of background knowledge. Depending on a student's prior education in business, up to 21 additional credits of foundation business courses may be required, bringing the total credits required for the degree to 51 credits.

Core courses are required and emphasize a virtual manager perspective and skill set. Among these are: "Financial Analysis for Business Decisions;" "Business, Government and Society;" "Management Methods for Business Decision-making and Communication;" "Strategic Management;" and "Virtual Management."

Electives allow students to specialize in advanced topics related to their professional goals and interests. Among these courses are "Management and Collective Bargaining;" "Financial Statement Analysis;" "Consumer Behavior;" "International Marketing;" "International Economics;" and "Sustainable Management in the 21st Century."

MBA Concentrations

Concentrations include elective courses that allow students to specialize in 1 of 4 areas: ethical leadership, finance, healthcare administration, or international business.

Ethical leadership courses impart the basic tenets of leadership and ethical decision-making, preparing students to be effective leaders who can take on ethical dilemmas in their careers and lives. Courses include "Leadership, Power, and Influence;" "Negotiation and Conflict Management;" and "Ethical Management of Organizations."

The financial management concentration exposes the student to the 3 pillars of corporate finance, investment, and financial markets and institutions. Building on the program's core, students in this track learn the skills needed to solve real-world problems in global business firms.

The healthcare concentration provides students with critical information needed to advance their healthcare organizations and careers. Students develop a deeper, more nuanced understanding of the industry and of the unique situations healthcare managers cope with on a daily basis.

The international business concentration prepares students with knowledge about the impact of international production and distribution as a vital part of corporate strategies.
