Master's Programs in Health Informatics

The master's degree program in health informatics at Northeastern University is designed for individuals with a background in either healthcare or information technology. Graduate students can choose from 3 different programs: a Master of Science (MS) in Health Informatics; an Advanced Standing MS in Health Informatics; and a sub-specialization program.

IT professionals with little knowledge of healthcare of healthcare professionals with little IT knowledge enter the 11 course MS in Health Informatics. Graduate students take introductory courses health informatics and health information systems as well as courses that integrate both content areas, such as Data Management in Health Care. Each student concludes with a capstone course, which is equivalent to a master's thesis. This program is generally completed within two-years.

Public health professionals, experienced clinicians, or individuals with PhDs in related fields can opt for the Advanced Standing MS in Health Informatics. Students in this program generally take 2 fewer courses, since their prior experiences typically eliminated the need to take courses such as the American Healthcare System.
