May is Asian Americans and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, dedicated to recognizing and applauding the outstanding contributions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islander Americans in the United States.
To celebrate, here are 11 scholarships designed for Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders to help fund your education:
- Scholarship for Asian American & Pacific Islander Students
This scholarship provides an academic award to an Asian American or Pacific Islander student to make education accessible. With this scholarship, we hope to bring historically underrepresented students access to a quality education. Eligible candidates must be full-time or part-time students attending a university or a four-year college, and have a minimum of 30 semester or 45 quarter hours still to be completed.
Award amount: $500+ - Asian Pacific Fund Scholarship
The Asian Pacific Fund offers 10 scholarships for graduating high school seniors (incoming college freshmen) to graduate students. An applicant may apply for as many scholarships as they like, as long as they meet the eligibility criteria and submit a separate application for each. Each scholarship application has required short essay questions (250-500 words) that allow students to explain their academic and career goals, community involvement, financial need and personal hardship.
Amount awarded: $1,000 – $5,000 - Medical Library Association MLA Scholarship for Underrepresented Students
This $5,000 scholarship will be granted to a student who is entering an ALA-accredited library school or has yet to finish at least one half of the program’s requirements in the year following the granting of the scholarship. Applicants must be a full-time or part-time student studying Library and Information Sciences.
Amount awarded: $5,000 - AALAM/Dow Fund Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded annually to a full-time Asian American law student who demonstrates leadership potential, maturity and responsibility, a commitment to making a contribution to the Asian American community and other indicia of excellence, whether personal, professional or academic. Applicants must be a current member of AALAM.
Amount awarded: $5,000 - Taiwanese American Scholarship Fund
TASF focuses on providing financial assistance to economically-challenged Taiwanese American youth and for them to have the opportunity to pursue higher education and build the foundation for a better future. Applicants must attend a university, a four-year college, two-year college or a vocational-tech school.
Amount awarded: $1,000 - OCA-UPS Gold Mountain Scholarship
The OCA – UPS Gold Mountain scholarship has provided 164 scholarships to Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) high school seniors who are the first in their family to attend an institution of higher education. In order to be eligible students must identify as AAPI, enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student, and attend a university or a four-year college.
Amount awarded: $2,000 – $2,500 - APIQWTC Scholarship
APIQWTC (Asian and Pacific Islander Queer Women and Transgender Community) provides support and community for nearly 800 queer and trans Asian and Pacific Islander individuals. You will need to submit a one-page cover letter (300 words or less) describing one to two activities that you have been involved in within the API Queer & Trans community and why these activities are important to you.
Amount awarded: $2,500 - American Chemical Society Scholars Program
Renewable scholarship will be awarded to underrepresented minority students majoring in a chemistry-related discipline and are also intending to pursue a career in chemistry-related fields. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident and have a minimum 3.0 GPA.
Amount awarded: $1,000 – $5,000 - CIC/Anna Chennault Scholarship
This scholarship is designed to encourage students to pursue journalism as a career. Eligible candidates must be a full-time student attending a university, four-year college, two-year college, or a vocational-tech school who is studying Journalism
Amount awarded: $5,000 - Korean-American Scholarship Foundation Western Region Scholarships
These scholarships are available to Korean-American and Korean students enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or graduate program in the US. Award selection is based on financial need, academic achievement, school activities, and community services. Each applicant must submit an application to the respective KASF region.
Amount awarded: varies - Minority Scholarship Awards for College Students
This award was designed for college undergraduates who are studying chemical engineering. Candidates must be an undergraduate student attending a university, four-year or two-year college,
