Accelerated M.B.A. -- An Overview

Holy Family University's accelerated M.B.A. program is different from most others. At Holy Family, an important principle is that learning should be more than imitating. And the Holy Family community believes that it is vitally important for adult students to take courses that are not only educational and interesting but also relevant.

Offered by the Division of Extended Learning, Holy Family's Master of Business Administration is designed to meet the needs of working adults. The program continually asks students to combine their work experiences with textbook learning. Holy Family's students and their employers have found this approach extraordinarily beneficial, with class assignments and projects implemented in the workplace and published in professional journals.

For a manager eager to become actively engaged in the learning process through critical reflection, oral and written communication, and a rigorous curiosity, Holy Family University could be an excellent fit.

Building Connections Between Theory and Practice for Today's Business Environment

Holy Family's Master of Business Administration program comprises 10 courses and 30 credits, covering the necessary content areas expected of the M.B.A. graduate, and may be completed within 20 months. Students may choose to add a concentration -- 3 three-credit courses -- in finance or health-care administration.

The program is open to those currently working in business, with at least three years of progressive managerial experience. Holy Family also offers a New Professionals M.B.A. Program for those with less than three years of managerial experience. It comprises 12 courses and 36 credits, and can be completed within two years.

Each 8-week course in the regular program meets once a week. If students are enrolled in hybrid courses, they will meet in the classroom one Saturday per month, with all other coursework completed online. Regardless of the format, Holy Family's competitive tuition allows for superior return on investment.

Holy Family's formats allow students to assume more responsibility in the learning process. Facilitators -- professionals working in their fields of expertise -- work with students during each class to help them build connections between theory and practice. The M.B.A. program at Holy Family combines academic rigor and practical application. It is writing- and project-intensive, requiring students to move beyond summary to create original and applicable work.

The goals of the Holy Family accelerated M.B.A. reflect the requirements and demands of today's business world, with the particular goals listed below.

- Skill with handling of numbers. Students will become comfortable with mathematical modeling, manipulation of financial data, and measurement and prediction techniques requiring numbers and qualitative abilities.

- Communication. Students will gain adeptness at researching, organizing, and presenting information in oral and/or written form that is clear, original, and decisive. They will be able to write and speak well to facilitate decision making.

- Knowledge of ethical/legal issues. Students will come to have a grasp of ethical and legal issues. Sensitivity to gender, diversity and cultural issues is a must. Essential to the business enterprise is the integrity of the businessperson, which facilitates relationships in environments based on trust.

- Global perspective. Students will come to have a broad view enabling them to initiate and manage business beyond local borders. A transnational perspective is required.

- Creativity and innovation. Students will become skilled in creative problem-solving so that they can deliver inventive business solutions and recommendations and can maintain an innovative environment that adds value to process, products, and services.

Flexibility, Convenience, and Real-World Experience

The hallmark of Holy Family's accelerated M.B.A. program is its seamless integration into students' lives. From convenient locations (Bensalem, Newtown, and Quakertown, Pa.) to flexible scheduling to both online and traditional formats, the program is designed specifically for working adults. Moreover, Holy Family recognizes and values the diverse educational and professional backgrounds of its accelerated students, and respects their prior learning and educational achievements.

Students and faculty members will all be working professionals, and Holy Family's educational philosophy acknowledges their work and life experiences as contributions they bring to the classroom. Like all of its accelerated programs, Holy Family's M.B.A. is highly participatory and will challenge students to become actively engaged in the learning process.

No wonder one of Holy Family's students says, "Facilitators bring their real world experience to the program. As adult learners, the integration of current issues and events into the curriculum keeps it pertinent and provides a valuable educational experience."

An Institutional Focus on Outcomes

Holy Family's is a challenging academic environment. To succeed here, students must be committed. They must put in the work, the hours, and the effort. But if students are willing to dedicate themselves, their efforts will be rewarded. Students will receive a first-class education that will enable them to explore new ideas and experiences, one that will fully prepare them for the next steps of their careers as soon as they graduate.

It's easy to see why Holy Family graduates stand out. The difference is real-world. The difference is experience. The difference is preparedness and a focus on student outcomes.

A Challenging and Nurturing Environment

Respect for the individual, the dignity of the human person -- these values are at the very core of the Holy Family institution. They are values that are taught at the university; even more, they are values that are lived there. Holy Family's concern for moral values and social justice guides its programs and enriches everything that it does.

Those values give rise to a vigorous, demanding educational experience that will challenge students even as it teaches them. Yet Holy Family's legacy is also one of mutual support and community. Holy Family's is a smaller, more personal learning environment. Here, students will know their professors, and those professors will, in turn, know their students. When students raise their hands, they will be called on by name. If students have questions, those questions will be answered. If students need additional help, they will get it. Students' education here will be more personal, more welcoming, and more in tune to their success.
