Students benefit from state-of-the-art technology, innovative curricula, and accomplished faculty members. They gain the knowledge and skills needed to successfully manage the global, technological, ethical, and diversity-based challenges that businesses face in the dynamic, international market place.

Full-time MBA Program at Iowa State University

The full-time Master of Business Administration (MBA) program at Iowa State University is an intensive, 2-year program that includes 30 credits of core courses.

It also includes 18 credits of elective courses that allow students to tailor their educations to their career goals. Five areas of specialization are available: accounting, finance, marketing, supply chain management, and technology and innovation management.

The core value of corporate social responsibility is integrated throughout the interdisciplinary curriculum. Professional development is a critical component of the program and includes activities such as internships, service learning projects, and case competitions that help students gain real-world experience.

Professional MBA Program

The Iowa State professional MBA program, which is ideal for working professionals, is identical to the full-time program in curriculum and quality. The same talented and experienced faculty members teach courses in both programs, so professional MBA students can be assured of the same level of support and expertise. Classes are held in the evenings in Des Moines; the professional MBA program can be completed in 2 and a half years or less.

The program emphasizes practical skills development in key areas such as team work and communication. For example, students lead groups and participate in case studies, class discussions, projects, and presentations.

Master of Accounting Program

The 30-credit Master of Accounting (MAcc) program involves 15 credit hours of accounting courses. It also includes 12 credits in non-accounting courses that can be used to develop solid secondary fields of knowledge or acquire broad knowledge across disciplines.

Additionally, the program has 3 credits of communications courses and an optional 2-credit creative component.

Master of Finance Program

The Master of Finance (MFin) degree at Iowa State is designed to prepare students for careers in corporate finance, financial analysis, investing and wealth management, and risk management.

Although not a "quant" program, the Iowa State MFin emphasizes more quantitative methods and skills than either an undergraduate finance degree or MBA program. This will equip graduates to effectively analyze and solve problems encountered in today's rapidly changing financial environment.

Master of Science in Information Systems Program

Iowa State University also offers a Master of Science in Information Systems (MSIS) program that helps individuals gain the skills and experience needed to "develop and maintain information systems."

It is a flexible program that allows students to create individual curricula that are based on their backgrounds and career goals. The program includes 32 to 43 credits and consists of information systems core courses, business foundation courses, and information systems elective courses. There is a dual degree option with the MSIS and the MBA program at Iowa State.

PhD in Business and Technology Program

Iowa State's PhD in Business and Technology is a full-time, residential program that includes 74 credits. It is designed to help students gain the skills needed to conduct outstanding scholarly research.

The curriculum, which emphasizes theory development and testing, consists of 5 inter-related areas: core courses, specialization courses, research methodology and statistics, a minor area of study, and the dissertation. Furthermore, areas of specialization include customer management, supply chain management, and management of information technology.

Financial aid for PhD students consists of tuition waivers and assistantships that include stipends.

Faculty and Research

Graduate students learn from and work with faculty members who conduct cutting-edge research and bring practical experience from the business sector to the classroom. Their research interests span a wide range of topics including accounting, finance, management, information systems, marketing, and supply chain management.

For example, professor of management Paula C. Morrow is known worldwide for her research about employees' commitments to work. She is also a consultant for several private and public organizations and has published numerous journal articles, as well as a scholarly book.

In another example, professor of marketing Sanjeev Agarwal has written or co-written more than 35 publications on several topics including international marketing and business.
