Harding University is a private liberal arts university located in Searcy, Arkansas, about an hour from Little Rock, Arkansas and 2 hours from Memphis, Tennessee. Both "U.S. News and World Report" and the Princeton Review rank Harding University as one of the top colleges in the Southeast.
Harding has been placed on the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll in recognition of the thousands of hours that students and faculty members devote to charitable projects. Harding University is affiliated with the churches of Christ. More than 5,900 Harding students represent all 50 states and more than 54 countries and territories.
Harding employs 359 faculty members who are dedicated to scholarship, teaching, and service.
The 350-acre campus includes 14 residence halls, 6 apartment complexes, athletic stadiums, a world-class recreation center, a performing arts center, health and student centers, and academic colleges and facilities.
Wide-Ranging Academic Programs and Schools of Learning
Harding University offers a wide range of degrees in both liberal arts and professional studies. The university offers 10 undergraduate degrees in over 100 academic majors. Majors range from specialty subjects, including Bible and ministry, interior design, interior merchandising, athletic training, and biblical languages, to preprofessional degrees, such as accounting, management information systems, mechanical engineering, and international business, to typical liberal arts degrees in chemistry, English, political science, psychology, and Spanish.
Harding University offers 14 preprofessional programs in pre-agriculture, pre-architecture, pre-dentistry, pre-engineering, pre-law, pre-library science, pre-medical technology, pre-medicine, pre-optometry, pre-pharmacy, pre-physical therapy, and pre-veterinary medicine.
Harding University is home to a College of Allied Health, a College of Arts and Humanities, a College of Bible and Ministry, a College of Business Administration, a College of Education, a College of Nursing, a College of Pharmacy, and a College of Sciences.
The university also has an Honors College that offers interdisciplinary studies and a minor in leadership studies.
Harding also provides 21 graduate and professional degrees.
American Studies Institute
Harding’s nationally recognized American Studies Institute was developed to train students for leadership in business, public life and education. Programs include observations tours, seminars and lectures by visiting leaders in industry, business, education and government.
Harding University provides a Christian social community with many cultural opportunities for students through music, drama, art, lectures, and special events. More than 150 student organizations are active on campus including social organizations, professional associations, political parties, bands and orchestras, athletic clubs, language clubs, and Christian organizations.
Harding University is a member of the Great American Conference and NCAA Division II. Men's sports include baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, tennis, and track. Women's sports include basketball, cheerleading, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, track, and volleyball.
Study Abroad Opportunities
Harding offers study abroad programs in Zambia, Australia, England, Chile, France, Greece, and Italy. Almost half of Harding graduates have taken advantage of an international experience. Harding also offers shorter-term 2- to 6-week summer study abroad opportunities.
The Center for World Missions
Harding University is home to the Center for World Missions, which provides for mission internships throughout the year and summer missions through Global Outreach.
Financial Aid At Harding University
More than 90% of the student body at Harding University receive financial aid. Approximately $60 million streams in from federal, state, and private sources. Academic scholarships at Harding include National Merit Scholarships, Trustee Scholarships which cover the full amount of tuition, the Academic Achievement Scholarships that cover up to about half of tuition, and Transfer Student Scholarships. Harding also offers need-based grants and tuition discounts to Christian college employees, Christian ministers and missionaries, orphans, and others. Harding also offers special scholarships such as the Scouting Scholarship, awarded to full-time students who have earned the rank Gold Award (Girl Scouts of the USA), the Stars and Stripes Award (American Heritage Girls), Eagle (Boy Scouts of America), Silver Award (Venturing), or Quartermaster Award (Sea Scouts).
Each year recruiters representing over 200 organizations visit campuses looking for potential employees. Harding graduates have found prominent positions with Dell, Ford Motor Company, HCA Healthcare, PriceWaterhouse Coopers, Wal-Mart, and Make-A-Wish Foundation among other national and international companies.
