IYRS: The Convergence of Tradition and Technology

Whether one's interests lie in advanced design technologies or classic craftsmanship, IYRS programming includes advanced woodworking, manufacturing technologies, preservation and restoration, integrated working systems, carbon fiber fabrication, and marine technologies. IYRS offers a variety of hands-on training programs and industry certification in as little as 6 to 20 months.

Career Paths for Trade & Technical School Graduates

Career preparation is core to the IYRS experience. Developing skill sets in the shops and classrooms is as critical as developing an informed career path and gaining real-world experience. All IYRS curricula include career planning and a career immersive experience. IYRS programs also incorporate elements of project management, strengthening IYRS graduates' understanding of cost and material estimates, budgeting, and other business-critical decision-making.

Career services professionals guide students throughout their career exploration and planning process including workshops, job search, networking, resume writing, and interviewing.

IYRS graduates are prepared to enter a global manufacturing and maker workforce with the confidence and ability to collaborate, contribute, and lead in R&D labs, in the shop, and on the manufacturing floor.

IYRS graduates make an impact. They have won the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon, traveled the world as onboard marine technicians, worked for disruptors like Google X and innovators like Autodesk, joined leading luxury boat, wind turbine, and aerospace manufacturers across the country, designed surfboards and fabricated performance vehicles, managed architecture and design firms, and even built their own businesses.

A Maker's Paradise: Why Consider IYRS

Students report back to IYRS that in addition to faculty members that are experts in their field, IYRS offers access to technologies, equipment, shops, facilities, and tools comparable to innovation-hub shops and maker spaces. IYRS has a 3-acre waterfront campus that features state-of-the-art shops, labs, maker spaces and classrooms, including those in a brand new 20,000 sq. ft. build space.

With full-time and flexible scheduling, IYRS offers graduates the opportunity to build, break, make, design, restore, and repair, all while jump-starting their careers. Full-time certificate-granting programs range from six to 20 months in duration.

IYRS is located in the heart of downtown Newport, Rhode Island, the beautiful "city-by-the-sea." Newport offers an intimate setting full of bigger city perks nestled into the New England coastline. The Newport community and its surrounding areas offer a wide range of activities. In one day, students can catch a ballgame, a wave, or some rays. Go hiking, biking, golfing, surfing, sailing, too. Observe the history, taste the artisanal cuisine, or listen to the world-class music festivals.

IYRS, a non-profit organization, is committed to keeping tuition and shop fees low to ensure their programs are accessible. Additionally, IYRS combines a robust scholarship program and interest free payment plans with Federal Financial Student Aid and GI Bill eligibility to ensure an IYRS experience is financially viable.
