Overview

Misericordia University Educates Caring, Motivated Students who Want to Succeed

Misericordia University is a coeducational Catholic University located in Dallas, Pennsylvania. The school was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1924. Misericordia was founded as a college for study in broad-based liberal arts and preprofessional studies, and the university continues to adhere to this tradition today. The University offers 37 degree programs on the bachelor's, master's and doctorate level. Each student is challenged academically and prepared for career success while also learning the value of service to others.

Misericordia Students Enjoy Personal Attention from and Relationships with Experienced Faculty Members

One hundred and thirty-six full-time faculty members teach at Misericordia, 77 percent of which hold a doctorate. Misericordia students enjoy close contact with this experienced faculty. The student-faculty ratio is 11.3 to 1, allowing students to enjoy small-sized classes and personal attention throughout their college years. Not only do students receive an individualized education in this setting, but they have the opportunity to engage in productive, meaningful intellectual discussions with their peers. This creates an academic community wherein all of Misericordia's 2,879 students make positive contributions to the learning environment.

Students Choose From Degree Programs in Liberal Arts, Sciences, and Preprofessional or Professional Studies

Misericordia University offers 37 degree programs in three academic colleges. Traditionally, the school has focused on the liberal arts and sciences, as well as preprofessional and professional studies. Occupational and physical therapy are two of Misericordia's strengths, and master's and doctoral degree programs are available in those fields as well as in a number of other specializations. The most common fields of study are the health sciences and business fields, and thriving programs exist in the social sciences, humanities, psychology, education, communications and mathematics, among others.

The Middle Atlantic Region Provides an Exciting Backdrop to Misericordia's Idyllic Suburban Campus

Misericordia is located on a 123-acre suburban campus near Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. This location in the Middle Atlantic region of the United States is a center of culture, business, and higher education. Misericordia is centrally located within easy reach of Baltimore, Philadelphia, and New York City, as well as the Atlantic Ocean. Receiving an education in this dynamic region of the East Coast allows students access to personal and professional activities that can help enrich the college experience.

Students Enjoy Leadership and Involvement Opportunities Outside the Classroom

Life outside the classroom at Misericordia is thriving. There are more than 40 social clubs and organizations available on campus, including student government, service organizations, a theater group, and two student publications. Additionally, the school operates the Student Outdoor Adventure and Recreation (SOAR) program, which arranges a variety of outdoor activities for students. The program's goal is to foster growth and leadership skills at individual and group levels, using the outdoors as a medium. Taking advantage of the many stunning outdoor locations that the region has to offer, the SOAR program includes activities that range from relaxing walks in the woods to rock climbing and rafting trips.

NCAA Division III Athletics Contribute a Spirit of Leadership and Teamwork to Misericordia

Misericordia University has a growing athletic program, and athletics form an important part of student life at the school. The school has twenty-five men's and women's varsity sports teams, including football, lacrosse, tennis and track and field. The school competes in the Middle Atlantic Conference's Freedom Conference in the NCAA's Division III. In 2015, the women's indoor track & field team capture its first MAC Indoor Championship. Also in 2015, the men's basketball team won the MAC Freedom Conference. The Misericordia baseball team is ranked 36th in the nation according to the 2017 Collegiate Baseball pre-season poll. They have won six consecutive MAC Freedom Championships. Intercollegiate competition helps students develop teamwork and leadership skills that also enrich their lives and contribute to their success after college.

Misericordia's Guaranteed Placement Program Ensures Student Success After Graduation

Another distinctive feature of Misericordia is the Guaranteed Placement Program. This program ensures that all Misericordia graduates who successfully complete the program are enrolled in a graduate school or working in the career of their choice within six months after graduation. If a student has trouble achieving this goal, the school provides the graduate with a paid internship in his or her field of study. By focusing on student success after graduation, Misericordia contributes to its reputation of excellence.
