Overview

Overview of Robert Morris University

A private, nationally ranked doctoral research university in the suburban hills of Pittsburgh, Robert Morris University is just a short drive from the social, cultural, and professional opportunities of a major city. RMU offers 50 undergraduate programs and 35 graduate programs, both on the 230-acre campus and online. For more than 90 years, the university has provided academic excellence with a professional focus and the personal attention that, together, truly change lives.

RMU built its reputation in business, and that tradition continues with a new home for the School of Business opened in 2011 and accreditation from AACSB International -- The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. This designation places RMU in the top tier of business schools. The School of Communications and Information Systems opened its new home, Wheatley Center, in 2012, while the School of Nursing and Health Sciences opened its new building, Scaife Hall, in 2015, complete with a suite of advanced medical simulation laboratories with observation rooms. The School of Education and Social Sciences and the School of Engineering, Mathematics and Science both are in completely renovated buildings, with state-of-the-art classroom equipment and living and learning areas for each.

Engaged learning is a highlight of an RMU education, and the university provides each graduating senior not only an academic transcript, but also a Student Engagement Transcript, which shows potential employers the student's internships, service-learning activities, study abroad, leadership roles, and other learning that has occurred outside the classroom.

Nearly 90% of freshmen live in campus housing, creating a close-knit community and providing students with the chance to make new friends. Visiting international scholars and a variety of opportunities to study abroad -- for a semester or a few weeks -- together enrich students' global perspectives. Students also can choose to join any of RMU's more than 120 clubs and organizations. In addition, nearby Pittsburgh is full of attractions of all kinds, from culture to night life to internship opportunities.

RMU's competitive athletics program fields 16 NCAA Division I teams. The Colonials have won titles and championships in nearly every sport they participate in. Football draws enthusiastic crowds to Joe Walton Stadium. Basketball and volleyball teams will play at Peoples Court in the new UPMC Events Center, opening in 2019, while the region's only Division I men's and women's ice hockey teams play at the RMU Island Sports Center, a 32-acre sports and recreation complex. Students can also participate in a number of club and intramural sports.

Robert Morris University is committed to the mission of changing the lives of its students and empowering them to go into the world to change the lives of others.
