From its abundance of world-class restaurants to its diverse blend of international cultures to its rich world of art exhibits and museums, Houston is a great place to find inspiration. The country's fourth-largest city is all about energy, entertainment, and endless possibilities.
Houston boasts a mild, semi-tropical climate with sunny beaches nearby. A fine arts mecca, Houston is home to several major art museums, a premiere opera, ballet and symphony, and live theater companies. Culturally diverse, there are several international ethnic communities.
A 17-block area in the middle of downtown composes the Theater District, with the Bayou Place entertainment complex, restaurants, movie theaters, live music venues, plazas, and parks. The Houston Verizon Wireless Theater offers live concerts, stage plays, and stand-up comedy.
Space Center Houston is the official visitors' center of NASA's Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center, which offers interactive exhibits including moon rocks and a shuttle simulator. The Galleria is the biggest shopping mall in Texas and is located in the Uptown District.
Other popular venues include Old Market Square, the Downtown Aquarium, and Sam Houston Race Park. The city's cultural diversity is evident in Chinatown and the Mahatma Gandhi District.
Houston has over 300 parks; one of them, Hermann Park, includes the Houston Zoo and the Houston Museum of Natural Science. Of America's 10 biggest cities, Houston is number one in terms of space set aside for parks and green space. And a recent study of the 50 largest U.S. cities by Walk Score ranked Houston the twenty-third most walkable.
As for ballparks, the Houston Astros play baseball at Minute Maid Park, the NFL's Texans take on the competition at Reliant Stadium, and the Rockets of the NBA play basketball at Toyota Center.
