Jefferson Overview

Jefferson is located 15 minutes northwest of Center City Philadelphia, a rich and vibrant city in Pennsylvania. Founded in 1884, it is a private institution of higher learning, fully accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.

The 52 buildings on the university's 100-acre campus range from historic Victorian mansions to contemporary classroom, library, and residential facilities. Jefferson offers the best of both worlds: a beautiful campus with tree-lined walkways, spacious lawns, and classical architecture, just minutes away from its extended classroom - one the nation's most exciting and lively cities, filled with entertainment, cultural events, and more than 300 years of American history.

A Variety of Degree Offerings

Jefferson offers more than 50 undergraduate and graduate degree programs leading to the Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Architecture, Bachelor of Landscape Architecture, master's degrees, and doctoral degrees in occupational therapy, midwifery, management in strategic leadership, and textile engineering and science.

The university is committed to providing an experiential education and is recognized as a leader in the architecture, design, business, engineering, liberal arts, textiles, fashion, science, and health fields.

Jefferson's most popular degrees include fashion, architecture, engineering, environmental sustainability, landscape architecture, textiles, digital media, liberal arts, merchandising, marketing, business, physician assistant studies, psychology, chemistry, and biology.

The Student Body

The Jefferson student body is academically, geographically, culturally, and economically diverse. The university has 3,700 full- and part-time students from 40 states and 25 countries. Class sizes average 18 students, allowing for lively discussions and helping to foster relationships between and among its students and its experienced and dedicated faculty. Often, students can partner with faculty members to pursue joint research interests and gain career experience.

At Jefferson, personal attention and ongoing advisement are cornerstones. From the moment students enroll, they have a network of resources to help them transition to a university environment, find academic support, and facilitate their personal and professional development. Jefferson Has A Vibrant Student Life

Through a unique blend of liberal and specialized education with an interdisciplinary focus, the university prepares students for today's complex, global workplace. Study abroad and internship opportunities are available for fall, spring, and summer semesters at locations all around the world. Along with an exciting and memorable experience, students may receive credit for courses and positions that apply directly to their challenging, professional-oriented curricula.

Jefferson is a member of the CACC conference at the NCAA Division II level for the following sports: men's baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, tennis, and track, and women's basketball, cross country, golf lacrosse, rowing, soccer, softball, tennis, track and volleyball. An extensive intramural sports program is also available to all students.

In addition, Jefferson offers many chances for its students to get involved outside of the classroom - from clubs and student-run organizations to campus-wide community service projects, from Open Mic nights to resume writing workshops - learning is integrated in all the university does.

Since the late 19th century, Jefferson has been a leader in professional education, helping individuals meet the challenge of achieving their goals. More than 90 percent of Jefferson freshmen live in one of its residence halls. Over 95 percent of its students receive aid in the form of grants, loans, campus employment, and/or scholarships.

Jefferson has established a phenomenal record of career success for its graduates; its career placement rate in major-related jobs has consistently been above 90 percent, within a few months of graduation, for more than twenty years. A record 96 percent of Jefferson's 2012 graduates are working in their disciplines or have been accepted to the graduate school of their choice. The university's innovative programs prepare its students for 21st century careers by giving them the skills to be "Powered to Do What's Now. Powered to Do What's Next."
