The M.A. in Counseling with the specialization in Clinical Mental Health Counseling provides students both the theoretical knowledge and the supervised clinical experience they need to take the Counselor Preparation Comprehensive Examination (CPCE). Licensures and Credentials | Adler University
Adler University graduates of the M.A. in Counseling with the specialization in Clinical Mental Health Counseling are eligible to apply for the Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and, upon completing post-graduate training and practicum, the Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) credentials.
Graduates can also apply for the National Certified Counselor (NCC) credential and sit for the National Counselor Examination (NCE), which, upon graduation, may be submitted to the State of Illinois licensing board to fulfill state licensing requirements.

Comprehensive Curriculum | Adler University
Students in the M.A. in Counseling with the specialization in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program complete a total of 61-credit hours. Students take required courses in counselling theories, diagnosis of maladaptive behavior, clinical mental health, Adlerian theory and counselling, group counseling, counseling multicultural communities, couples and family counseling, human development, treatment planning, addictions counseling and assessment.
Students also participate in practicums and practicum seminars, professional development and field training.

The faculty at Adler University are experienced real-world practitioners and committed researchers. Dr. Justin Lauka, Director of the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program, comes to Adler University with experience in mental health agency and EAP settings where he conducted intake assessment and implemented crisis intervention, treatment plans and care coordination. His research, publications and presentations focus on counseling education.
Dr. Christina Jackson-Bailey is active in professional organizations such as the Counselors for Social Justice and the Association of Black Psychologists. Her research, publications and presentations focus on psychological distress among black men and multicultural counseling.
