The original information school
The School of Information Studies (iSchool) is the original information school in the nation. At the iSchool the focus is on users and user information needs as a starting point for integrating information and information technology into organizations. The university's interdisciplinary philosophy means that students from any academic or professional background have the opportunity to thrive in their program. Their faculty includes professors who are top researchers in their field, and professors of practice who bring a wealth of knowledge from practical experience in the field of IT. Graduates of the program have gone on to become consultants and analysts, work for technology giants and the U.S. Government, and work for exciting startup companies - or found their own.
Master's In Enterprise Data Systems Program
The MS in Enterprise Data Systems (EDS) from the iSchool is designed for students who want to prepare professionally to manage, design, support, and optimize the infrastructure that supports the digital enterprise cloud environment. EDS teaches both conventional and future network infrastructures, along with the devices, services, protocols, standards, and applications that are transforming the enterprise.
The Gartner Organization predicts that by 2018, growth and use of mobile, social media, sensors, and big data will have resulted in an Internet of Things (IoT) that connects billions of devices through networks across the world. This level of connectivity has created a demand for skilled professionals who understand cloud computing and have the ability to design, configure, and manage modern digital enterprise cloud environments.
Enterprise Data Systems at the iSchool is a unique program that provides a wide variety of opportunities in IT and data-centric organizations in sectors such as finance, consulting, health, and more.
NOTE: This program is not offered online at this time
The iSchool has strong relationships with leading companies in the cloud computing, data analytics, and related technology industries. Representatives from industry collaborators provide their time, talent, and business expertise along with access to modern software packages and hardware systems. This enables students in the EDS program to obtain hands-on experience and apply classroom learning to real-world scenarios in an environment found only at the iSchool.
Faculty of One
The Syracuse University iSchool doesn't have traditional academic departments like most schools. Instead, the school has a united faculty body with diverse research and academic interests that is committed to teaching all iSchool students. With access to 50+ full time faculty, iSchool students have the freedom to explore and study all corners of the information field.
Employers are seeking people who not only have technical expertise but can communicate with the boardroom in everyday language. EDS graduates will be able to create systems that deliver data to key parts of any organization driven or reliant on data and IT infrastructure. Students also understand what drives business, are able to articulate recommendations, solutions, and strategies to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
The iSchool has a dedicated Employer Relations and Career Services team to help students prepare for careers in the information field and to connect students with internships and full-time employment
The iSchool offers merit awards to aid students in pursuing graduate degrees in Information Management ranging from graduate. Merit based aid includes endowed awards, graduate assistantships, and Europe/Eurasia Scholarships.
