Majors and Degree Offerings at University of Colorado Boulder: School of Law

The University of Colorado Law School’s curriculum provides students with one of the best comprehensive legal educations in the nation, employing a solid foundation in the fundamentals of law, robust theoretical inquiry, doctrinal and policy analysis, real world experience, legal reasoning tools and professional skills. 

The faculty is passionate about teaching and committed to providing a well­ rounded learning experience that prepares students to serve wisely and with professionalism. Colorado Law sponsors a number of law­related centers and programs, giving students valuable exposure, connections, experience and leads on future jobs.

The School of Law offers the following areas of study

Law - The Juris Doctor program at Colorado Law is a three­-year program that prepares graduates to practice law. As part of the program, entering students are assigned to a small cohort that allows students to build strong relationships and study groups with other students.

Master of Studies in Law - The University of Colorado Law School’s Master of Studies in Law (MSL) degree is a one­-year, 28-­credit program that enables students who hold at least an undergraduate degree to obtain legal training short of a full Juris Doctor (JD) degree. The program is designed to produce graduates who can take advantage of emerging job markets that require some legal knowledge and employers that are assigning a number of legal tasks to non­lawyers.

The College of Law offers a traditional Juris Doctor (JD) program, an option for completing the JD in 2.5 years, seven dual degree and six certificate programs, a LLM program, and a Master of Studies in Law (MSL) program.

Students at Colorado Law take advantage of connections with the Silicon Flatirons Center for  Law, Technology and Entrepreneurship; the Getches-­Wilkinson Center for Natural Resources, Energy and the Environment; and the Byron White Center for the Study of American Constitutional Law.

CU Boulder Graduate School has produced 5 Nobel Laureates, 9 MacArthur ‘genius grant’  fellows and has been ranked Top 15 public university for entrepreneurship (U.S. News & World Report, 2019).

Admissions at University of Colorado Boulder: School of Law

Admission to CU Boulder Graduate School will be considered once all material is received, including letters of reference. Deadlines vary by program type and materials are due on their respective date at 10pm MST. Applicants must hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, or have done work equivalent to that required for such a degree.

Applicants must show promise of ability to pursue advanced study and research, as judged by the student’s scholastic record and have adequate preparation to enter graduate study in the chosen field. Applicants should have at least a 2.75 (2.00=C) undergraduate grade point average.

CU Boulder School of Law: Costs and Financial Aid

CU Boulder School of Law is an investment designed to prepare students for the future. 

Cost of Attendance 2019-2020: Tuition and Fees for Colorado Residents is $31,836 and for Non-Residents is $38,622.

Students who would like to apply for need-based financial aid should submit the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) in accordance with the application timelines. By submitting the FAFSA, each student is automatically considered for need-based grant and scholarship programs.
