The goal of the AADOCR P&G New Faculty Research Fellowship is to support dental, oral, and craniofacial researchers at the early stages of their scientific careers and to enhance career development at the faculty level in science and academia. The award must be put towards their post-doctoral research, establishment of their laboratories, the completion of a research project, or preparing research for publication or grant submission. All AADOCR members are encouraged to apply, which includes those who meet the eligibility requirements, as well as individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds, defined as meeting two or more of these criteria: (1) Have/had no parents or legal guardians who completed a bachelor's degree. (2) Were in the foster care system. (3) Were eligible for the Federal Free and Reduced Lunch Program for two or more years. (4) Were eligible for Federal Pell grants. (5) Grew up in one of the following areas: a U.S. rural or low-income area, a low- or middle-income country, or a health professional shortage area. Applicants must be an AADOCR member at the time of application; be within 10 years of their last professional degree; have demonstrated a commitment to a research career as well as academic promise; hold a DDS/DMD and/or Ph.D., or equivalent advanced degree; and hold an appointment at the post-doctoral, instructor, assistant professor level or equivalent at an accredited dental school or academic research center in the United States. Applicants must submit a letter of support from the applicant's research supervisor or department chair; an outline of the candidate's career plan, including a career development plan and a description of how the fellowship will affect future research to be conducted by the applicant; a project description, excluding references, and should include hypothesis, methodology, plans for publications/presentations and a realistic timeline for the project; a personal statement; the candidate's CV or biosketch; and budget and budget justification demonstrating how the $10,000 will be spent.
