ADEA Enid A. Neidle Scholar-in-Residence Program

Description

The ADEA Enid A. Neidle Scholar-in-Residence Program provides oral health educators with an opportunity to pursue research that addresses key topics in academic dentistry, health professions education, or faculty development. Through this work, scholars contribute insights that help inform institutional practices and advance oral health education. Applicants must hold a full-time faculty position with a primary teaching appointment in a predoctoral, allied or advanced dental educational program at an ADEA Member Institution. Junior faculty are encouraged to apply. Applicants must also be an ADEA Individual Member. They must receive prior approval from their dean or program director supporting their application and full participation in the program if selected. Applicants must have authored or co-authored at least one article in a peer-reviewed journal within the past five years; and have a proposed research project that has received Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval or been deemed IRB exempt. The application must include a letter of nomination from the applicant's dean or program director describing how participation in the program would benefit both the applicant and the institution. The letter must also confirm the institution's support of the applicant's participation, including continuation of salary and fringe benefits during the program year. The application must also include a letter of reference from an individual who will serve as the applicant's mentor (may be a department/program chair) describing how the mentor will support the applicant's research and professional development during the program. The application must include a summary describing the proposed research project, including the project title, purpose of the study, background, significance, problem statement, research question(s) and proposed methodology. In the application, applicants must also include documentation confirming the proposed research project has received IRB approval or has been deemed IRB exempt by the applicant's institution. Acceptable documentation includes an IRB approval document or an exemption letter. Please visit the award's website or contact the American Dental Education Association for more information.
