APA Predoctoral Fellowship in Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services

Description

Funded by a grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the MFP has created the Predoctoral MHSAS Fellowship to support the training of practitioners and policymakers in behavioral health services. This fellowship program is designed for students in clinical, counseling, and school psychology, and other related careers. The principal aim of the fellowship is to identify, select, and support the training of doctoral-level ethnic minority students and postdoctoral trainees whose prior experiences and clearly stated career goals suggest they will make significant contributions to the behavioral health services needs of ethnic and racial minorities. The MFP selects individuals with promise and a commitment to careers that address behavioral health services needs of ethnic minorities. Thus, the APA-MFP has two target populations at the center of its efforts: the members of ethnic and racial minorities in need of behavioral health services and ethnic minority doctoral students in psychology. U.S. citizens or permanent residents or non-citizen nationals are eligible. Applicants must be enrolled in an APA-accredited doctoral program for the fall term immediately following the application deadline. No fellowship support is available during a student's internship year. African Americans, Alaska Natives, American Indians, Asian Americans, Hispanics/Latinos, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders are especially encouraged to apply. A brief cover letter, two essays, a curriculum vitae, a recommendation from the student's academic advisor, two additional recommendations, and the GRE report, if applicable, are required. Please visit the fellowship's website for more information.
