The Arne Engebretsen Memorial Scholarship For High School Seniors is a scholarship opportunity for a Wisconsin high school senior who plans to attend a college or university and major in mathematics education or have a mathematics concentration at the elementary education or the middle school elementary level. The Arne Engebretsen Memorial Scholarship was established to honor the man who dedicated his entire teaching career to improving the quality of mathematics education in the state of Wisconsin, the country and the world. He was, in the finest sense, a master teacher. Integral to his work was the use of technology and more specifically, hand-held graphing calculators. Applicants must submit a PDF of an official letter of support. The letter should be from a mathematics instructor, preferably one who is a member of the Wisconsin Mathematics Council. In this letter, applicants must ask the author to address the following topics: A statement of the experience the writer has had with the student; Leadership ability of the student; Activities in which the student has participated related to the teaching of mathematics; Supporting evidence of the student's interest in teaching and mathematics; and Supporting evidence of the student's potential success as a teacher.
