The AWG Mavis Kent Mid-Career Award is given annually to one honoree in recognition of significant contributions to the Earth and space sciences by an outstanding mid-career woman scientist. We define mid-career as the professional stage demonstrating earned experience and expertise but with the expectation of many years remaining to gain more experience, advance qualifications and pursue leadership roles. This approximates to 7 to 20 years of professional experience. Each honoree will be evaluated in the following two areas, that demonstrate a balance between professional Earth or space science careers, and outstanding service to their communities. Nomination packages should include one to two-page letter summarizing the nominee's significant contributions to Earth and space science, and impact of distinguished community service; the nominee's resume highlighting science career and community service; and two letters of support, with a maximum of five letters, which can be from non-members of AWG.
