The CFUW 1989 Ecole Polytechnique Commemorative Awards will be awarded to women in any field, studying in Canada or abroad. The applicant must justify the relevance of her work to women. This award commemorates the 14 women students murdered at the Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal in 1989. One Master's student may receive $5,000 and one PhD student may receive $7,000. Applicants must be a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada; or have proof of status as a Protected Person from Immigration and Citizenship Canada. Applicants must have enrolled or have been accepted to a Master's or Doctoral program, at an accredited university, for the 2026-2027 academic year, and be graduating spring 2027 or later. Proof of registration will be required at time of application, transcripts will not be accepted. Applicants who have not yet started their program may submit a letter of acceptance instead. Applicants must also submit two referee assessment forms. At least one of these assessments must be completed by an academic reference. The second assessment can be either from an academic reference or from a person familiar with the applicant's personal history.
