The Colonel Hazel Elizabeth Benn Scholarship is a special scholarship offered by the FRA Education Foundation for unmarried, dependent children of past and present enlisted Navy medical personnel who have served with the Marine Corps. The Benn Scholarship was established by Benn's estate to honor the memory of one of the first active-duty female Marines selected for the permanent rank of colonel. The Benn Scholarship is available to qualified applicants. The applicant's sponsor must be a current member in good standing of the Fleet Reserve Association or a FRA member in good standing at time of death, and served or is now serving in the U.S. Navy as an enlisted medical rating assigned to and serving with the U.S. Marine Corps. Applicants may be current high school students and current college freshmen or sophomore students. Applicants may submit their SAT/ACT scores, if applicable. They must also submit a School and Community Activities Sheet. All applicants are also required to submit exactly two recommendations, one academic and one community. The Foundation awards scholarships to recipients based on financial need, academic standing, character and leadership qualities.
