Dr. John W. Holcombe joined the faculty at SHSU in 1966. He taught at SHSU for forty-two years, blessing thousands of students, colleagues, and alumni with his collegiality, booming laugh, and generosity. As an advisor, he served as the faculty sponsor of the local chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha national political science honor society and for the campus Episcopal Canterbury Club. As a teacher, Dr. Holcombe was a favorite of students, teaching classes in American politics, legislative politics, and political participation. He was rewarded with the University's Teaching in Excellence Award in 1991 and the admiration of students and colleagues throughout his career. Dr. Holcombe's heart was as generous as his laugh was infectious. This scholarship honors his memory and is dedicated to his service to the campus and the community.
