Description

The Edward Yoshiharu Sakuma & Kay Kubo Sakuma Student Teaching Merit Scholarship was established in 2018. The purpose of this fund is to assist students with educational expenses related to the costs of being engaged in teaching while completing their degree program. Preference will be given to recipients who were awarded in the immediate prior year if such recipient continues to meet the eligibility requirements and is in good academic standing. Applicants must intend to teach in the public school system or equivalent in the state of Hawai'i. The donor also requires applicants to be enrolled in a student teaching experience or working as a teacher while pursuing further education. Preference will also be given in the following order of priority: attend University of Hawaii - Manoa; students who have graduated from a public high school or equivalent in the state of Hawai'i; students who major in education; and/or students who intend to teach mathematics or science.
