Erin Trujeque Memorial Scholarship

Description

Established in 1989, the Erin Trujeque Memorial Scholarship is awarded to students who have undergone treatment for childhood cancer in New Mexico and wish to continue their education beyond high school. Erin Trujeque died of cancer in 1985 at the age of 12. School is not always easy for a child diagnosed with cancer. Financial burdens as a result of a cancer diagnosis can make saving money for college extremely difficult on families. The Erin Trujeque Memorial Scholarship was established to assure that children who may not be eligible to receive other scholarship assistance or afford college would still be able to attend. Students eligible for the Erin Trujeque Memorial Scholarship must have been diagnosed with and treated for childhood cancer at a New Mexico Pediatric Oncology Treatment Facility and have an in-take form completed at time of diagnosis on file with CCFNM as well as meet the CCFNM eligibility for services criteria. In order to receive the full award, students must register for 12 or more hours per semester. Eligible applicants may receive a maximum award of eight semesters of undergraduate studies and four semesters of graduate studies. All students must reapply each academic year for an award. In addition, applicants will also be required to submit a short video, expressing their gratitude for the scholarship and information about their college experience: their name; when they were diagnosed with cancer; number of years receiving scholarship; school they are attending; their major and future goals. The first-time applications for the upcoming Fall or Spring semester are due on April 1, 2025. Renewal applications for the upcoming Fall or Spring semester are due on May 20, 2025. The first-time or renewal applications for the Spring or Summer semester are due on October 20, 2025. Please visit the scholarship's website for more information.
