The Postdoctoral Fellowship is awarded to scholars who hold a Ph.D. degree in a field related to the African and African-American experience. It carries an annual stipend of $40,000 and a $3,000 research and travel fund. The Fellow will engage with FDI through pursuing his/her own scholarship, teaching one course in his specialization, and participating in the intellectual life of the Institute. Applicants for the 2012-13 academic year must have their Ph.D. in hand before the fellowship begins in September 2013. Application checklist: A completed FDI fellowship application form; a curriculum vitae; 3-5 page description of the project (plus a short bibliography); a sample of published or unpublished writing on a topic related to the proposal; and three letters of recommendation (to be sent directly to FDI by the referees) that comment upon the value and feasibility of the work proposed.

  • Must be a postgraduate student
  • Must attend a university
  • Must study full-time
  • Must not be attending high school currently
  • Restricted to students studying History, Humanities, International Studies, Area/Ethnic Studies, African Studies, Political Science, Anthropology, or Social Sciences
