The Geoffrey Michael Chan Wing Au Scholarship Fund was established in memory of Geoffrey Au, a former first chair viola player with the Hawai'i Youth Symphony, and beloved science teacher at Farrington High School. To commemorate his love for science, this scholarship fund is designated to benefit college and graduate students pursuing a degree in Science. The donor requires the applicants to attend an accredited four-year college or university, excluding online universities and colleges. The donor also requires the applicants to submit two letters of recommendation; one letter from a professor or instructor within the student's major field of study (science), and one letter from an instructor or community member (unrelated) speaking to the student's extra-curricular activities and demonstrated community service experience and leadership. Preference (in order of priority) will be given to: (1) students who have participated in the Hawai'i Youth Symphony as a performer and/or volunteer; (2) students engaged in any academic cancer research; (3) students who were previous recipients.
