Description

Herbert C. Shipman headed the W.H. Shipman Ltd. Company from 1943 until 1976. Mr. Shipman was also a conservationist, working to save the nene from extinction. He was amongst the first to raise orchids on Hawai'i Island and has a park named after him in Keaau. The H.C. Shipman Scholarship Fund was established by the H.C. Shipman Foundation in his memory for the purpose of supporting students from Keaau public high schools. Preference is for recipients who were awarded in the immediate prior year. The donor requires applicants to be graduates of Keaau High School and attend a 4-year college or vocational education program.
