International Research Scientist Development Award

Description

The International Research Scientist Development Award (IRSDA) provides support and protected time (three to five years) to advanced postdoctoral U.S. research scientists and recently-appointed U.S. junior faculty (applicants must be at least two years beyond conferral of doctoral degree) for an intensive, mentored research career development experience. Some current and former NIH PDs/PIs are not eligible. Applicants must hold a research or health-professional doctoral degree and have at least two years of research experience beyond receipt of their doctoral degree. Individuals who have already received independent research funding are not eligible for the IRSDA. Candidates are required to have both U.S. and LMIC primary mentors. They are also required to spend a minimum of 50 percent of the total project period physically in-country conducting research at the LMIC institution. They must demonstrate that they are committed to an independent research career in global health, and justify the need for three to five years of mentored research experience to become an independent research scientist. Applicants may visit the award's website or contact the program officer for more information and inquiries about the application.
