Jim McKay Graduate Scholarship

Description

The Jim McKay Graduate Scholarship honors the legacy of legendary sports broadcaster Jim McKay by supporting student-athletes who exemplify his commitment to leadership, integrity and the pursuit of excellence in sports communications. Each year, the NCAA awards this prestigious scholarship to one female and one male student-athlete who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement, meaningful involvement in athletics and a clear passion for a career in sports communication or media. Applicants must be a graduating senior at an NCAA member institution and have competed in intercollegiate athletics at the varsity level. They must intend to pursue a graduate degree in sports communication, journalism, media studies, or a related field. Applicants must demonstrate leadership, integrity, and service both on campus and in the community. Student-athletes who believe they qualify should be sure to contact their athletic academic counselor or Faculty Athletics Representative. Student-athletes are nominated by their institution's Faculty Athletics Representative or a designated administrator. Applicants must submit at least four letters of recommendation highlighting academic, athletic, and personal achievements from four different people. One must be from a faculty member teaching in the nominee's baccalaureate degree discipline; one from a person who can assess the nominee's contributions to intercollegiate athletics or an academic advisor; one from a person who can speak about the nominee's community service and leadership skills; and one from an endorser of the nominee's choice. Please visit the scholarship's website or contact the National Collegiate Athletic Association for more information.
