Description

The John Carter Brown Library supports scholarship centered on the history of the colonial Americas, North and South, including all aspects of African, European, and Native American engagements in both global and comparative contexts. Short-term fellowships are open to individuals who are engaged in pre- and post-doctoral, or independent research, regardless of nationality. Short-term fellowships are available for periods of two to four consecutive months. A narrative description of the proposed project, including an explanation of its historiographical significance, progress to date on the project, identification of specific materials to be consulted at the JCB, and plan for work to be completed while in residence must be submitted. The JCB resources span hundreds of languages, and we encourage scholars around the world to explore our materials. However, we do require applications to be submitted in English. If English is not one of your first languages, or if you don't feel confident in English, please note that in your application and we can assure you that it will be read generously by the selection committee.
