Established by Thomas H. Arthur, PhD to honor Kathleen G. Arthur, PhD, the Kathleen G. Arthur Scholarship Endowment for International Study in Art History in Florence, Italy may be awarded to undergraduate students who are first or second majors in Art History who have achieved a GPA of 3.0 or above. If there are no qualified candidates in this pool, art majors enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts degree program are eligible. Prior to consideration, students must have applied and been accepted into a James Madison University study abroad program. Preference will be given to semester-long programs in Europe, with additional preference given to those traveling to Italy. One or more students will be selected on the basis of their academic achievements, as evidenced by their cumulative grade point average, their essay, and the faculty recommendation. The scholarship may be awarded for a fall, spring or summer session. While a student's financial need is intended by the donor to be a factor in the determination of the student who will receive this scholarship, the donor directs that the scholarship selection committee shall have discretion to incorporate this factor into their determination process in a manner of the committee's discretion.
