Description

Larry Whiteside, a pioneer in the field of sports journalism, was the first African American beat sports writer for The Boston Globe. His achievements earned him many prestigious honors. Mr. Whiteside passed away in 2007 due to complications from Parkinson's disease. NABJ's Sports Task Force established this scholarship in Mr. Whiteside's honor to provide financial assistance to journalism students interested in sports journalism. Applicants must be a NABJ student member in good standing. They must have an interest in pursuing a career in sports journalism. Applicants must submit a cover letter or letters of recommendation. Five work samples of the applicant must also be submitted, it must include a combination of writing, audio, and on-camera work; audio and on-camera samples should be no more than five minutes in length each.
