The Lithuanian Foundation is a diaspora organization. As such, priorities are given to students studying outside the borders of Lithuania, especially to those who are members of the Lithuanian Foundation, Inc. The candidates for the scholarship will be selected based on their academic merit, leadership potential, demonstrated volunteer engagements in their communities, and especially involvement in Lithuanian community activities. Special attention is given to the applications from students, studying or doing research in Lithuanian linguistics, literature, and folklore or Lithuanian history. Applicants must be pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees based on the following priorities: (1) US citizens and US permanent residents (green card holders) pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees. (2) Students from Lithuania pursuing Master's, or Doctoral degrees in Lithuania. (3) Students from Lithuania, pursuing a Master's, or Doctoral degree in the US (with a student visa) or elsewhere abroad. (4) By exception only, students from Lithuania seeking a Bachelor's degree in Lithuania meeting donor-directed fund designations. Non-citizen applicants wishing to study in the US or any other country must attach a copy of a valid student visa. Applicants wishing to study in the US must present a copy of a US student visa and a copy of an I-20 form issued by their university. All applicants must also submit two recommendations; at least one recommendation must be from a professor or teacher at their current school. Preferably, the second recommendation must come from the organization the applicant is currently involved in. Recommendations from family and friends are not acceptable. First-semester university students may provide a recommendation letter from a high school teacher.
