Reg Huston/S.T.A.R. Scholarship for Performing Arts

Description

The Reg Huston/S.T.A.R. Scholarship for Performing Arts has been established to provide financial assistance to students who have participated in the performing arts in high school and who will continue to participate, either as the primary course of study, or as a secondary pursuit, in their higher education. The committee shall strive to award a $4,000 scholarship award based on financial need and a $1,000 scholarship award based on merit each year. The applicant must be a graduating high school senior in Monterey County. The applicant must have either classes or extra curricular activities in the performing arts during high school. The applicant must submit two letters of recommendation either from their school teachers, private teachers, or community leaders. Applicants must submit a video example of their performance abilities. Videos should be no longer than 5 minutes but can be shorter. Students should not feel obliged to fill all 5 minutes but should just put their best foot forward. Videos can be started in the middle of a performance and are not required to be a complete work. The student may be a part-time student so long as their classes or extracurricular activities include the arts. The student need not major in the arts. They must, however, show that they are involved in the arts. Regardless of whether the school is a community college, university, conservatory, or vocational school, there must be proof that the student is involved in the performing arts. This may be shown either by a class schedule, a performance program which includes their name or a letter from the director or employer where the student is active. There is no limitation as to where the student continues their education. Please visit the scholarship's website or contact the Community Foundation for Monterey County for more information.
