Ron Brown Scholarship

Description

The Ron Brown Scholarship honors the legacy of Ronald H. Brown through a selective scholarship program that advances higher education for community-minded and intellectually gifted African Americans. RBSP competitively awards four-year scholarships to the most talented and economically-challenged high school seniors who demonstrate a keen interest in public service, community engagement, business entrepreneurship and global citizenship, the four pillars of the late Ronald H. Brown's mission to uplift people of all races, cultures and ethnicities, especially our disadvantaged youth. Recipients may use the renewable scholarships to attend an accredited four-year college or university of their choice within the United States. Applicants must submit two letters of recommendation. At least one of these should be written by the applicant's high school counselor, teacher or principal. The second letter may be submitted by someone who knows the applicant well and can attest to their character, leadership ability, commitment to community service, and/or academic achievement. This may include an employer, mentor or coach. It cannot be the applicant's mother, father, guardian or a family member. Applicants will also be asked to submit an essay that they wrote for their college applications. If their selected college or university did not require any, applicants must submit two essays instead. In the first essay, applicants will be asked that they answer a specific question. The second essay can be on any topic. If applicants haven't written one for a college application, they may submit an essay that they wrote for one of their classes, or write a new essay. Please visit the scholarship's website for more information.
