The Dr. Lawrence Foster Scholarship will be awarded to undergraduate philosophy majors in the College of Liberal Arts. The award is meant to honor the life and work of Dr. Lawrence ("Larry") Foster, professor of philosophy emeritus, and former chair of the Department of Philosophy at UMass Boston from 1983 to 2002. The scholarship is open to all philosophy majors and only philosophy majors. Transfer students are not eligible the year they transfer. Freshmen are also not eligible. Once deemed eligible for the award, students will be asked to solicit a recommendation letter from a single member of the UMB philosophy faculty (only philosophy letters accepted). If a student has transferred, a single recommendation letter from philosophy/humanities faculty at other institutions will be accepted.
