The Lawrence Lipking Fellowship enables a qualified Northwestern University PhD English candidate to spend one quarter conducting research full time at the Newberry. Recipients are expected to present their research at a Newberry Colloquium, a chapter of their dissertation at a Fellows' Seminar, and participate in the scholarly community during their residency. A project abstract describing the significance of the project and a project description elaborating on the abstract and referencing specific published scholarship that the project will engage with are required. The description should also explain the relevance of certain Newberry collection materials to the project and include a plan of work. Letters of Recommendation, in English, that speak to the scholarly contribution of the proposed project, the value of a Newberry residency to the applicant, and the qualifications of the applicant.
