Visual Arts is one of 10 artistic disciplines in YoungArts' national competition. This discipline encompasses a broad range of fine art including multi-media and performance art. Applicants may either be a citizen of the United States, a permanent resident/green card recipient, or someone who can demonstrate that they are legally able to receive taxable income in the United States. Applicants must also be in grades 10-12 or 15-18 years of age on December 1 of the year they are applying. The portfolio should demonstrate original thinking and a willingness to take creative risks. Applicants are urged to submit work they feel best represents their personal creative interests and their artistic voice. The portfolio must include a total of ten images that represent eight to ten of the applicant's best works made within the last two years. The portfolio should explore a cohesive idea, technique, or theme. If submitting under ten works, the additional image(s) can be detail shots of a section of a piece that is difficult to view in an image of the full piece. For those submitting video stills/documentation of performance piece(s), it is optional but a 30-60-second supporting video recording may be submitted.
