Ed McMahon Mass Communications Center

This state-of-the-art center features a 1,200-ft HDTV Studio with the latest, professional, all-digital high definition equipment. The Center's News Technology Center is modeled after a newsroom and has high-performance PCs, peripherals, and software for students' interactive multimedia and web design projects in new media. The Ed McMahon Mass Communications Center features two radio studios, a multimedia production facility, editing suites and labs, and a mini-theater. The center's highly-skilled media professionals are on hand to instruct and assist students. As a result, graduate students with MS degrees in journalism, interactive communication, or public relations have the hands-on training and knowledge to excel in their careers.

Students Gain Real-World Experience at Leading Media Organizations

QU students are taught by an internationally recognized faculty with extensive professional experience. Unique Master of Science in Public Relations Program Offered on Campus or Online

The newest program on the esteemed QU School of Communication's roster is the 36-credit Master of Science in Public Relations. The program's unique curriculum focuses exclusively on professional practice in public relations, unlike other masters programs in which PR is just an elective. The master's curriculum includes creative writing courses such as "Public Relations Writing." Students can specialize further in areas such as international public relations, investor relations, or healthcare public relations. The pioneering public relations program is designed for early- to mid-career PR professionals who wish to advance and update their skills for today's changing workplace or for those transitioning from complementary vocations such as finance, law, healthcare, technology, human resources, journalism, advertising, and marketing. The MS also gives graduates a competitive edge when entering the workforce for the first time. Graduates are highly qualified to work as PR specialists in corporate, nonprofit, or government venues.

Master of Science in Journalism

The highly regarded 36-credit MS in Journalism program focuses not just on the traditional world of reporters, editors, and producers that are always needed for newspapers, broadcasting, radio, and magazines, but also on careers for online newspapers and other interactive delivery systems in the fast-paced world of the Internet. After completing the master's curriculum core courses, students choose specialized electives in print, broadcast, or online journalism. The School of Communications' Master of Science in Interactive Communication program is a cutting-edge degree that focuses on the principles and practices of creating content for distribution through the Internet, portable media devices, and other digital platforms. The curriculum features a mix of courses that teach students how to blend animation, audio, graphics, still images, text, video, and user-generated content into a single narrative--thereby teaching students how to transform traditional or linear media forms into a non-linear multi-media experience for the audience. Armed with an MS in interactive communication, graduates have a competitive edge in the marketplace for opportunities as producers for advertising, entertainment, and news organizations engaged with the creation of content through digital systems. Students are encouraged to apply skills learned during their professional careers to multi-media content development, which shifts their thinking from traditional broadcasting and print to interactive, non-linear media that is evolving online. The program is offered both as a nine-month program on campus and an online-only program. The two-year, online option attracts working professionals.
