The sophisticated, high-tech center for the nursing masters programs includes 12 classrooms, 16 seminar rooms and team-study rooms, 24 teaching labs, a model apartment to teach students how to provide care in residential settings, a SimMan suite of life-size patient simulators, and a pediatric and neonatal lab. Cutting-edge equipment at QU's North Haven, Connecticut, facilities includes magnetic resonance simulators and 3-D workstations. Two Tracks Available in Quinnipiac's MSN Degree Programs

The graduate nursing program at Quinnipiac prepares nursing candidates for an advanced theoretical and clinical practice, able to meet the challenges of the present and the future. Quinnipiac's MS degree in Nursing includes a core study that covers advanced concepts, theories of nursing, advanced nursing research methods, healthcare policies, and economics. The 47-credit family nurse practitioner track prepares qualified professional nurses to practice at an advanced level in primary care settings as family nurse practitioners. Sample courses include: Primary Healthcare of the Family: Maternal/Child Focus, Primary Healthcare of the Family: Pediatric Focus, and Holistic Primary Care of the Family. The 43-credit adult nurse practitioner track prepares qualified professional nurses to practice at an advanced level in primary care settings as adult nurse practitioners. Sample courses include Holistic Primary Care, Holistic Primary Care of Adults, and Advanced Health Assessment, in addition to courses on specific nursing research methodology.

MSN Curriculum at Quinnipiac Meets National Industry Standards

The MSN curriculum of both tracks follows the national standards set by the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties, the American Nurses Association, and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing. Both curricula include a sufficient number of hours of precepted practice which trains graduates, under the preceptor's watchful guidance, to diagnose and manage most common and many chronic illnesses, and to assume the responsibilities commensurate with prescriptive authority. Working independently and collaboratively with physicians and other members of the health care team, graduates of the family nurse practitioner track are well trained and competent to provide high quality, cost effective, and individualized primary care across the lifespan of adults or family members of all ages. After graduating with an M.S. degree in Nursing, graduates are eligible to take the national examination for advanced practice certification (APRN) in Connecticut in their chosen track.
