Andrew A. Dewees established the Dr. Andrew A. Dewees Undergraduate Research Endowed Scholarship in appreciation for having the privilege of serving for 37 years in the Biology Department at Sam Houston State University. Dewees was born and raised in Herrin, Illinois, and began his career in the biological sciences at Southern Illinois University, where he obtained a B.A. (1961) and MA. (1963) degrees in Zoology.
