The Elena Albano Maka'alohilohi" Scholarship Fund was created by a Maui family in honor of their ancestor, who was "a beacon of hope for individuals striving to shine." This scholarship is awarded to adults, in recovery from a mental health, behavioral or psychological disability, who are pursuing a traditional or vocational education program. Applicants must attend an accredited, two- or four-year college or university or pursue a vocational training program at an accredited institution. Applicants must submit two letters of recommendation from mentors, teachers, counselors, or other mental health professionals. Preference will be given to students of Hawaiian ancestry; and recipients who were awarded in the immediate prior year and continue to meet the eligibility requirements and are in good academic standing.
