The Canadian Blood Services Elianna Saidenberg Transfusion Medicine Traineeship Award provides financial support to physicians accepted to the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) Area of Focused Competence (AFC)-diploma program in transfusion medicine. The objective of the Elianna Saidenberg Transfusion Medicine Traineeship Award is to contribute to the maintenance of a community of physicians' experts in transfusion medicine who will ensure the continued relevance and safety of the Canadian blood system. Program Directors of accredited AFC-diploma programs in transfusion medicine are eligible to apply for this traineeship award on behalf of physician trainees who have been accepted into their program. Canadian Blood Services will consider applications for trainees who meet the following criteria: (1) The trainee must have been accepted into an AFC-diploma program in transfusion medicine; (2) The trainee must be a Canadian citizen or have Canadian permanent resident status; and (3) The trainee must have a license to practice medicine in the province in which the training will occur.
